Had a lie in until 7.30am today. After breakfast I walked to the pre-polling centre at the Broome Convention Centre and managed to cast my vote. I then took my wet weather pants round the corner to a seamstress to have the elastic boot straps repaired. These straps keep my wet weather pants from riding up over my boots and allowing the rain to soak into my boots. I am expecting rain when we head into Carnarvon on Thursday. It will be a long day (890 kms from Port Hedland) so I need to make sure that I'll be dry inside my riding gear. We have been pretty lucky with the weather so far. We missed the wet weather in western Queensland that occurred the week before we left Tamworth and now I believe it is raining there again. At least the farmers will be happy.
After I picked up my wet weather pants I went to the Broome Historical Museum round the corner from the hotel. It was closed!!! It is only open from 10am to 1pm each day. What a bummer. So instead I went for a walk around Town Beach which is quite close to the hotel. There was a really nice park there and wharf which was set up for fishermen with metal plates for gutting fish. There was also a memorial garden of sculptures commemorating the Japanese bombing of Broome in March 1942.
Off to Port Hedland tomorrow 610 kms.
